If you are within 20 miles of Grayshott, there will be no additional charge for a location shoot. If an urban location for your shoot sounds appealing, Portraits by Pear Tree can also travel to London and the surrounding areas.

Pregnancy is an incredibly special time for you and your family, and a pregnancy photoshoot can help you capture the moment to create a lasting memory that you will cherish forever. Every family is unique, so you will want to capture these moments in your own special way, here are some inspirational ideas to help you get the most out of your pregnancy photoshoot…

Timing is everything

We recommend mums-to-be book a pregnancy photoshoot for around 30-35 weeks through the pregnancy. This ensures your growing bump will show up beautifully in the photos, but you aren’t too tired to enjoy it and have that wonderful pregnancy glow when you look and feel fantastic. It’s a good idea to book your photoshoot after your 20 week scan so you can make sure you secure the ideal date for you and your family.

Once you have a date in the diary, you can start planning your pregnancy photoshoot to ensure you capture all the images you want to remember this precious time.

Make it personal

Your pregnancy photoshoot is a wonderful opportunity to capture unique moments that can be treasured for years to come. Bring along your favourite flowers, special keepsakes, favourite outfits or family heirlooms that you want to be included in your pregnancy photos.

We recommend bringing along your scan photos and any special gifts that you have already brought for your baby such as a pair of booties or a tiny teddy bear. These accessories all help to create memorable images that will capture this unique moment in your life.

It’s a family affair

Bring your partner and any other close family members you want to be included in these special photographs. We have had grandparents-to-be, godparents, siblings and even pets join us in the studio before. This is a special time for everyone, so if you want to make it a family affair then feel free!

Alternatively, you may wish to come alone or with your partner if you will feel more relaxed, the most important thing is that you feel at ease and can enjoy this special time as that will come across in the photos. We specialise in maternity photography and will ensure you feel comfortable and confident from the moment you arrive at our studio.

Look and feel your best

When planning what to wear in your pregnancy photoshoot, it is important that you look and feel your best. We suggest wearing tight fitting tops, skirts or dresses if you are bringing your own outfits. We have some fabulous maternity dresses for you to choose from here at our studio, but you can bring along anything you would like to wear.

We have had mums-to-be wearing their favourite lingerie, maternity dresses, uniform, costumes, swimwear and even their partners shirts. Your partner can also bring their favourite outfits too so you both feel your best. One of the most important items to bring is different underwear. We advise bringing white, black and or nude underwear with you especially when using our dresses. The last thing you want is a black bra straps showing under a beautiful white dress.

Bring a few different options so you can change throughout the photoshoot as this will give you a nice variety of images to choose from. Your photographer will choose backgrounds and lighting to suit your outfit choices and ensure the images look amazing.

Strike a pose

You might like to think about some poses that you would like to be photographed in during your pregnancy photoshoot. Take a look at our gallery for inspiration or check out Pinterest or Instagram for some ideas of how you might like to stand, sit or lie throughout the shoot. We always encourage our clients to send us a pinterest board of images that interest them or things they would like to try. This should be sent via email to us a few days before the session. Our photographers will go through the ideas at the start of the session and will incorporate as much as possible into the photoshoot.

Our photographers are experts at helping you find the most flattering poses and will help guide you through the photoshoot to ensure you get a wonderful variety of images, but if you have some particular poses in mind then feel free to share them with us.

The first few months fly by when you’re enjoying life with a newborn baby, before you know it they will have grown out of their first tiny baby grows, but you can capture a lasting memento of this precious time with a newborn family photoshoot.

Gather the family and capture the love that surrounds your baby with a newborn photoshoot for the whole family, whether it’s just mum and dad or siblings, grandparents and more!

When to book your newborn family photoshoot

Timing is crucial for a newborn photoshoot. The best time to capture a newborn is within the first 14 days of their arrival as this is when they are the most sleepy. When scheduling a session in advance we recommend booking a date around your due date. We all know little ones arrive when they are ready so our newborn photoshoots once booked can be moved along to suit your situation.

It's very important to wait until you arrive at the studio to feed your little one so they fall into a wonderful milk induced snooze. This allows photographers to capture them at their best, after all, you wouldn’t want to do a photoshoot if you were ‘hangry’!

Newborn photoshoots get booked up months in advance, so it is worth getting in touch with the studio in your second or third trimester of pregnancy to secure the dates you want.

Bring along special props to create unique images

You can create totally unique images to treasure forever by bringing along any sentimental items to your newborn family photoshoot. Whether it’s your scan photos, a special item of clothing or something that belongs to a member of your family, these items can help to make your photos even more memorable.

In the past we have had newborn babies positioned on top of daddies army uniform, a newborn in a racing helmet, and lots of other unique items that have helped to make the photoshoot special.

You might also choose to bring along some seasonal props to remind you of the time of year when your newborn entered the world. For example, Christmas decorations, pumpkins, daffodils or whatever reminds you of the season you wish to celebrate.

Choose your wardrobe carefully

The best newborn family photos are often the ones where the family is in coordinated colours, patterns or clothes that complement each other. Channel your inner Prince William and Princess Kate and dress your family in coordinated outfits to create cohesive images that you will treasure forever.

Make sure you all feel comfortable and confident in whatever you choose to wear for your newborn family photoshoot, as it will help everyone relax and enjoy the occasion, particularly if you have young children.

We advise not to bring outfit changes for your little one as most babies do not like being disturbed too much. We like to use blankets and wraps during the photoshoot. Babies love to be wrapped up nice a warm, it also helps them to fall asleep. We have some at the studio but you are welcome to bring blanket that are personal to you.

Capture a wide range of images at your newborn family photoshoot

Depending on who you decide to bring with you to your newborn photoshoot, we will capture a wide variety of photos to give you plenty of choice when you come back to view your beautiful images.

We will take some of your newborn on their own, some with the special props you have bought with you, photos of the newborn with their siblings and photos of you alone with your newborn or as a couple cradling your baby between you.

There are so many options and your photographer will help you capture a wide range of photos, but if you have any ideas that you want to remember, it’s a good idea to share those with your photographer when you arrive.

Pinterest is a great source of inspiration and you can save the images you like so you can share them with your photographer at the start of your newborn family photoshoot to ensure you get the photos you want.

Celebrate your hobbies

Family photos are always fun when they truly represent you and your family. So, if your son is mad about hockey or your daughter loves football, bring along some props to show off these hobbies and capture what makes them special. We love seeing the wide variety of props that people bring to our studio, the more niche the better! We’ve had mixing bowls, rugby balls and all sorts over the years - what will you bring?

Bring your unique style

When it comes to family fun photos, it’s best if everyone feels relaxed and comfortable in whatever they choose to wear, so let your children wear their favourite clothes and embrace their individuality. This helps you get the best out of your photoshoot and come away with unique images that show your family at their best.

Think ‘inside’ the box

We love creating these unique images which capture the personality of the entire family. It’s an opportunity to have some fun and create family photos that will be a talking point for years to come. Bright colours work really well in our box montages, but you can bring whatever props and poses you want to represent your unique personalities!

Don’t forget your four legged friends

They say never work with children or animals - but we do both! Bring your dog to your photoshoot to capture the whole family together, they are guaranteed to bring the fun to your family photoshoot.

We recommend walking your dog before the photoshoot so they have run off lots of their energy and will be able to stand still for long enough to get the perfect shot (hopefully!) and will be able to relax.

Invite the whole family

Some of the most fun family photos we’ve seen have involved multiple generations. It’s a great excuse to get the whole family together and celebrate a moment in time or a milestone occasion and you will treasure the images forever.

Our family portrait experiences include a full studio portrait session plus the box shoot which we do towards the end of the session. Also included is a beautifully framed 10" wall portrait with your chosen image.
